High Point K9 Center Training Programs
High Point K9 Center offers 3 main training program categories. Pet Training, Competition Obedience (and Rally) and Agility. Other training specialty training classes are offered periodically when there is interest in those classes. After looking at our normal training class programs if you don't see a class you might be interested in, please contact the appropriate training coordinator and ask about the class or training you are interested in.
We also offer seminars and specialty (or introductory) classes in various topics from time to time (including Agility, Obdience, Show Handling and other specialty areas including herding, tracking, flyball, freestyle, etc.)
All classes at High Point K9 Center are taught using positive, motivational methods. They are intended to be fun for both the dog owner and the dog, while still providing the desired results, i.e., creating the dog you want to live with.
High Point K9 Center recommends all dog owners commit to one year of training with their dogs.
The High Point training location facility is an Indoor Class facility. Flooring is a high density rubber composite that will cushion all training activities for you and your dog.
Obedience Training Program Overview
High Point K9 Center offers three main Obedience category training programs. Which one you follow is based on your interests.
The High Point Pet Obedience program teaches you how to work with your dog with basic skills needed for a well mannered dog at home and in public places. This program offers a series of three classes including: puppy kindergarten, beginner and advanced. On completion of this program there are additional class offerings you may wish to consider.
Rally is a canine sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. There are three levels in Rally competition; Novice, Advanced and Excellent. The level of difficulty increases as the level titles indicate. In a typical Rally event, the dog and handler proceed by heeling at their own pace through a course of designated stations (10 - 20, depending on the level). The handler may talk to their dog throughout the course and give multiple hand and verbal cues. The Novice level courses are all performed on a loose leash. Rally is a good stepping stone into continued obedience training, and a great opportunity to have fun with your dog while building a great relationship.
High Point K9 Center offers classes in each of the levels of Rally to teach you the skills needed to earn Rally titles and to practice running rally courses.
Competition obedience is a canine sport that tests your dog’s ability to perform a series of exercises working with you as a team. The exercises include heeling, sit and down stays, stand for examination, retrieving, directed jumping, recalls, scent work, etc. There are three levels of obedience; Novice (earn a CD title), Open (earn a CDX title), and Utility (earn a UD title). Each level is more difficult than the previous, similar to achieving a higher education.
High Point K9 Center offers classes in Competition Obedience to teach you the skills needed to earn obedience titles and to show in the Obedience ring.
Agility Training Program Overview:
Agility is a canine sport that tests your dog’s ability to run an obstacle course consisting of jumps, tunnels, weave poles, an incline known as an A-Frame, a narrow raised dog walk and a pause table. There may be one or more of some of theses obstacles contained in a given "agility course".
High Point K9 Center offers classes that train both you and your dog in how to safely and quickly perform the obstacles in a course layout. There are several Agility organizations, including AKC, USDAA, CPE and NADAC, so there are many agility events in our area in which you and your dog can compete. There are levels in each of these venues ranging from Beginners to Excellent levels. As with all other sports, as the levels go up, the level of difficulty increases as well.
